Interview with Author A.K. Michaels By Aoife Marie Sheridan

Question: What have you published recently?

I've just publised Book 6 in my Defender's Blood Series, Tatiana's War, and also Sabrina's Vampire, Book 2, Assassin.  Tatiana's War is set in the fairy realm where something is very wrong and she must go with her friends, including Vamps and Wolves, to see what's wrong!  Sabrina 2 is about six months after they get together and she finds out about how Kyle gets some of his money and as she was a cop before she is pretty shocked!

Question: How, and when, did you decide to become a writer?

I've always loved words, I would sit and make up books in my head, I have quite bad OCD and would sometimes speak about it in my therapy sessions. One day my therapist said "Have you ever written those down? If not why don't you try." I waited a bit and then thought - 'I'll try' and as soon as I started it was like a light bulb went on in my head. I now had an outlet for all the weird and wonderful things that my brain was producing! Once I started I just couldn't stop! I am a little embarrassed at saying I only started about a year ago and now I've got ten published and working on two more. I've done that a couple of times - worked on two at the same time - simply because that's the way my brain is working.

Question: Where can we find your published writing?

I started off with Amazon, hitting publish on 23rd November 2013 with first book, Defender's Blood Alex's Destiny, and enrolled it in the Select programme which ties the work to Amazon for 90 days. I soon realised I didn't want that so new works I didn't enroll and added to a site called D2D which sends to Apple, Kobo and B & N. All books are on Amazon and four are now on those other sites too and as the select period ends I will add those too.

Question: What is a typical day like for you as a writer?

I have different days, depending on what my weird brain is doing lol. Some days I sit down at the laptop and write, write, write. Other days I try to check out how to go about doing some promo work - which I still have no clue about! Others I go over and over the books already written to check for anything that can make them even better - that's the OCD part of me - always trying to make things the best I can. I 'work' most days for about ten hours - sometimes more.

Question: What are your favorite characters that you have created? Tell us about them

Oh jeez - I love Alexina in the Defender books, simply because her and Zach (her vamp) were the first ones I wrote about. Plus she isn't the usual 20something female in books. She is a bit older and I like that, even if she is like a child when it comes to 'the bedroom department'. Oh I need to say - all my books have adult content but all is part of the story - mates meeting and bonding etc. Just thought I would put that in as wouldn't want to offend anyone. I also love Irina - she's a wolf and becomes one of Alex's friends. She's like a cheeky puppy and gets very excited about things.

I am working on book 2 in The Witch, The Wolf and The Vampire and I love all of those characters lol. However, Peri, the young Witch, is a dear, she may be strong in a lot of ways but naive and vulnerable in others. Plus she is VERY lucky - after all, she has two Supers who want to mate with her! A wolf and an ancient vamp! Who does she choose? One or the other - or both! Now that's a dilemma I wouldn't mind being in.

Question: do you find you “mentally edit” other writers’ works as you read them? Does doing this help you or bother you?

Not really, only spelling mistakes or there instead of their etc. Other than that I get immersed in the book and story.

Question: What music do you listen to, while writing?

Abs none! My brain can't take any outside stimulation while working. I get a sore head otherwise. I love listening to music while I drive tho - very loud. I love Rhianna, The Wanted, and even One Direction lol.

Question: What do you eat while writing?

Again I don't actually eat while at the laptop - I take breaks away - when my hands are too sore - and  eat. I do tend to like chocolate!

Five for Fun:

What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?

A Scottish drink - Sugar Free Irn Bru

What is your favourite cartoon character?

Scooby Doo, he's just so cheeky!

What is your favourite movie of all time?

Ghost - gives me chills, Patrick Swayze - oh my!

What do you like to do for fun or just to relax?

I like Candy Crush tho I'm not great at it lol. I also like to relax and watch TV with a nice glass of wine.
