Home Gardening Tips to Reduce Wastage

If you can remember, there are times when many people viewed food gardening as an activity restricted to some people in the countryside and the elderly. In the 21st century, however, things have significantly changed. In particular, many people right now invest a lot in growing fruits, berries, vegetables, and the likes.

The National Gardening Association approximates that about 35% of households in the United States grew food at home in 2013. The numbers are still increasing, which has influenced the organization to provide guides to help them flourish. For you to succeed as they do, here are the tips that you need to follow.

Know Your Environment

Your location determines whether you will succeed as a home gardener or not. Before you start the work, analyze the sunlight and shade in the area. Once you determine the exact amount of sun exposure that your land gets, you will be able to make the best decision regarding the types of plants that you will do well.

Moreover, remember that some edibles can tolerate partial shade. If you plan to plant them in a place where there is shade for between four and six hours, they will grow. However, you cannot expect a bumper harvest. When you choose to plant in a shady place, consider planting a higher number of plants.

Your soil type also determines how well your garden will thrive perform and the types of tools you will need as a beginner. Consider if the soil is sandy, loamy, or clay. Most plants do well in loamy soil, as it always has a balance of sand, silt, and clay. Besides, this one has perfect drainage.

If you find that your garden is not the perfect one, look for ways of improving it before you plant your seeds. You can add soil amendments to improve the structure and the nutrients. Another alternative that you can opt for is to use raised-bed or container gardening. In this case, be sure you purchase the right type of soil.

Reduce Costs

Your reason for choosing to be a gardener is to get a return on your investment. Be sure you learn to avoid things that you do not require. As you know, you can find all types of fancy gardening tools. The problem is that most of them are frills. Choose the right tools that you need as a beginner.

Why should you buy peat pots to grow your seeds? There is no need. This is particularly true if you already have any type of flower pot. Better still, you can improvise a shallow container or a milk carton and save a lot of your money. The bottom line is that what you grow will determine what you need.

Another way to manage costs is to prioritize quality. You should be careful here because some people do not know that cheap can be expensive. Choose products that will last for a long period and help you to get the best products.

Water is another rare resource, and you should use it with great care. It is always good to use drought-tolerant plants as well as native plants. Most of these have likely adapted to your local soil. You should also water your garden using a handheld hose. Experts prefer these because they significantly reduce the amount of water wastage.

Harvest Smart

Do not be like many people who are often tempted to think mission complete as soon as their crops are ready for harvesting. For you to be able to achieve maximum yield, you should take care and use the best skills.

Ensure you know the exact time when you need to harvest your crops. You can find these pieces of information on the package of your plant. If you fail to get it there, do a simple online search. Use the information to ensure you harvest as soon as your crops are ready. This way, you will increase your yield.

Be careful if you have planted crops that are best picked before they reach their full maturity. Some varieties of beans, for example, fall under this category. Harvest your root vegetables when they are small and still young.

Moreover, be on the watch out for damaged produce and immediately remove them from the garden. They sap unnecessary nutrients and energy and promote the spread of diseases. If your dog can destroy your produce, buy the right fence to reduce the risks. For the best wireless dog fence, click here.

Bottom Line

No one wants to spend a lot of time and resources of their home garden only to harvest nothing. You have many important businesses but value your garden. Reduce wastage by knowing your location, reducing the costs, and harvesting smartly. If you do this, you will find that you make save a lot of money by spending a few hours in your garden whenever you have some free time.

6 Essential Gardening Tools for Beginners

There are many pieces of information out there about what you need to be a great gardener. But your success is not about what people think. Some self-proclaimed experts can mislead you to go overboard when purchasing your gardening tools for their reason. The truth is that you will need an array of gardening tools depending on your type of plants and the size of your garden. The rights tools should also be within your budget. You will find many tools on nazflora.org and their FB page that meet your varied gardening needs. Before you buy any of them, assess your requirements to be able to create the right priority list. Some of the essential gardening tools for you as a beginner to consider are:

There are several types of scissors that you can use. However, as a beginner, you do not have to go for fancy ones. The first thing that you should do is have a clear understanding of why you need a scissor and how to use it. Some current master gardeners began with plain household scissors. You can make them your first choice of gardening tools. Use them to deadhead your snip herbs and flowers.

Well. We are not saying you do not need a pair of scissors. Many experts believe that real gardeners use heavy-duty garden scissors that have plastic-coated handles, especially during harvesting. You can start with the plain household option but get the essential advanced tools later.

Weeders come in a wide variety of names. The dandelion digger is just one of the common names of these tools. The small devices are great for prying up weeds, especially those with taproots, such as crabgrass.

Weeders are appropriately designed to penetrate the soil. Once that happens, they weed roots from the ground. The narrow and sharp fork points can coax out annual bluegrass surgically, spurge, wood sorrel, and more.

Soil Knife

The soil knife is a must-have because it is versatile, and you can use it in place of several garden tools. When you have it, you may never have to worry about just anything. If you want to plant herbs, flowers, vegetables, or bulbs, use it. Soil knife will also help you to divide plants, remove rocks, cut twine and ties, and open bags. Furthermore, you can use it to cut through rocks, clean out cracks, and much more. As you can see, with a solid knife, you will not need any additional tools as gardening goals.

Spade or Shovel

If you are required to choose between a spade and a shovel, go for the former. Both of these tools are incredibly useful. And you should be able to own them. However, as a beginner, you may encounter a situation that forces you to choose only one of them. With a spade, you will get pleasant, straight, and clean edges. You can use it for many things as well. Many gardeners prefer to use it to plant, transplant, and slice through tough roots. However, a shovel is not wrong at all. You can also use it to dig holes and scoop the soil. And, many master gardeners think it is the best for doing these functions. The bottom line is that you choose the one that best meets your needs. Whichever option you go for, be sure it has a sharp cutting edge and ergonomic design.

Gardening Gloves

You also need gardening gloves to protect you. Scratches from thorns and branches can make your knife extremely difficult. Blisters can do the same to you when you least expect it. Buy a heavy-duty pair to protect you from these problems. They are great for digging, pruning, and other demanding tasks. Choose a lightweight option that is coated with a durable rubber or latex, and you will have excellent gripping power. Besides, you will be able to do highly delicate tasks, such as transplanting your seedlings and picking up seeds.

As with many of the other tools, not all rakes will serve your different purposes. If you want one that will fit small spaces, consider a shrub rake. Besides, use big fan rakes to tidy up your garden when you are collecting the debris. Many gardeners use hard rakes to move leaves and mulch. You can also flip it over to be able to use the rake to move soil and compost and smooth out the soil. What’s more, the hard rake can also help you to blend the soil in with the rest of your bed.

Final Thoughts

Many people will tell you what they think you need. But in the end, you should ensure you your favorite gardening tools within your arm’s reach. Whether you are a beginner or not, you must choose the ones that make your digging, growing, pruning, and harvesting enjoyable and comfortable.

Top Reasons for the Popularity of Books by Brenda Wynn

There are millions of authors across the world, but only a few of them are making a real impact. The Virginia-born writer, Brenda Wynn, is one of them that have made it to the list of the most creative and highly inspirational writers. While she has authored several books, Silverdream & Bloodfire is the one that has won the admiration of many local and global readers. Brenda knows what her followers want. Read on, and find a detailed list of the things she has done to beat her many competitors.

Descriptive and Imaginary Writing

Brenda’s fancy, science function, and horror books captivate the mind of her readers. If you read her books or the reviews, you will be able to see how she uses the main character, a young, disabled woman known as Amanda, to tell a story based on the mortal world. Her narration will likely catch you off guard. She challenges readers to think about the need to take care of the people who are on wheelchairs.

The author uses Amanda to describe the troubles of that disabled people go through. Despite the discrimination and lack of the necessary resources that this narrator faces, she remains healthy. She goes to school and reports to her part-time job without fail.

I applaud the author, particularly for adequately describing the fascinating world of Elydir. This individual is said to live in the medieval times in a land that is divided among humans, sorcerers, dwarfs, and many other creatures. Overall, Brenda makes us learn an entirely new world. This way, she manages to create a high level of curiosity among her readers. This makes her books to stand out from the crowd.

Creative Book Covers

If you look at the cover of Silverdream and Bloodfire, you will also be inspired and tempted to pick the book up. The design of the dragon leaves a professional touch. What’s more, she uses white space to create focus. Brenda also successfully weaves her narrative into the cover design.

Many authors will urge you to avoid judging their books by their covers. You may say they do not want people to be superficial. But the undeniable reality is that almost all of us rely on covers to determine whether different books are worth our money. Brenda understands this and avoids sad presentations. Through this, she has successfully been able to convince many people to buy and read her books.

Emotional Connection

Brenda is addressing social issues that concern many people. Many relate to her message because she is disabled, just like the character that she uses as her mouthpiece. This author was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. She has had a congenital disability known as spina bifida since then. This means she was born disabled. Thus, Brenda has the ability to articulate these issues properly.

In her own words, Brenda also says she conceived this particular story during her high school days. Her main character, Amanda, is a college student who uses a wheelchair who could not get proper medication attention. As a result, she resorted to several magical spells and rituals. In one way, readers can easily believe that Brenda is using literature to solve practical political and social problems in the community. When readers perceive that she is dealing with their issues, they are enticed to learn from her books.

Books by Brenda Wynn are available on both digital and local libraries. Some great authors remain unknown because they ignore modern technology. Through the Internet, a creative writer can reach the entire world in a few months or weeks. Brenda did not do the same, and her books are now thriving.

The Bottom Line

You now know why the books by Brenda Wynn are many people’s favorite. They address the real needs of the world. Many people do not respect the rights of disabled people. Brenda uses abstract people to speak for these individuals. Besides, she has made the literature pieces easily accessible.

That is not all that the author has done. Many writers present great ideas in the same way but still fail to move the masses. Brenda has used imagery to describe her feelings and thoughts adequately. Moreover, she has designed a captivating book cover. Since most of us are judge books by their covers, her strategy has worked well. Brenda Wynn’s books enable you to learn the basic principles that can help disabled people, their families, and the entire world.

5 Features of the BestBook Covers

If you have heard people say, “Do not judge a book by its cover,” you already know the reason many established authors use only the best book covers. Very few people can pick books that appear unprofessionally written. The Ultimate Fancy Books features some unique and breathtaking book covers. As you can see, almost all of them catch readers’ eyes. Why? Here are the top elements that make these covers and many other successful ones extremely useful.

Eye Grabbing

When you have looked at that book, does its cover suggest that you need to grab it to solve an urgent problem? There are millions of books in the global marketplace. Many of them are available for free on the Internet as well. You will also find others on the streets at discounted rates. This means the best book covers must be able to compete effectively against these millions out there.

The only reliable and convenient ways to do this is to use a professional-graphics design service and focus on a single main compelling idea. Never try to squeeze in every little detail on the front cover. If you do this, you will fail to capture the attention of your potential readers within the first one-to-two seconds.

The successful book covers that you have seen are unique. They are not the same as those of other books in their category. However, they still address topics that the audience can relate with adequately well. Savvy authors do this to appeal to their preconceived notions. But they always ensure their literary works are seen on the shelves as a unique source of information.

How can you achieve this too? Play up what makes your book unique on its front. Use a title and subtitle that make this idea to stand out. This way, you will be able to win the heart of most readers as all they want is to acquire new, helpful information.

You know that hard information alone does not win hearts. Whatever piece of information that you include on the cover must be able to communicate with your potential readers on an emotional level. In other words, your title and the other features should address your audience’ pain points. Let them see that you have been listening to them and have gathered adequate information to address their specific needs. If you do this, they will feel attached to your book and buy it to relate with you more. People cherish loving relationships.

Art and Type

All those best covers that you see on the streets, bookstores, and other places present a perfect marriage of type and art. Copy the same pattern to be successful too. The two features must be well planned. Furthermore, they need to complement each other. The intention of the cover designer should be to form a solid cohesion. But this does not mean that the art should mirror the writings. If this takes place, you may be left with an utterly dull book cover that attracts no one.

Use imagery and suspense as well. Do not attempt to rely on the artwork to tell the whole story. At this point, just awaken the interest of your potential readers. Then leave them wanting to learn more. This thirst will drive them to get some copies of your books.

The choice of your font will also determine the perceived value and quality of your book. Different genres of literature have varied typeface features. For instance, in some places, fonts that authors use for the books on sympathy are not the same for murder mysteries. When deciding on the best book cover, identify these patterns as they evidently have the potential to create the difference between your failure and your success.

The Bottom Line

In order to achieve your goal for writing your own books, pay careful attention to your cover. Perception is reality. If you do shoddy work here, no one will bother to read your outline or open the first page. Remember to appeal to the emotional needs of your readers. Use the right font and be unique. Also, ensure that your book cover is eye-catching and easy to read.

Keep it simple and focus on arousing the curiosity of your audience. Remember to deliver on your promises from the first page to the last to prompt your readers to give you referrals. Readers will always judge your books by their cover. Beat them at this game by putting these five tips into practice.

Comprehensive Features of Steve Cypert Books

Steve Cypert is the second born to amazing parents in California. Given that he was born into the Church of the Latter Day’s faith, this accomplished author engaged in LDS missions for two years at the age of 19. Throughout this entire period, he lived in the northern part of Ohio. He returned home after the service and left for Salt Lake City, Utah, at 24 to try out life independently away from home. More than 20 years later, Steve still dwells in this state. He is now a family man and writes his insightful books in South Jordan, Utah.

As long as Steve can remember, he has always loved to invent creative and far-fetched stories. In the early 2000s, he used his unique writing skills to complete a famous poem called “Pirate and Captain.” And a little later, he wrote a poem known as “Port of Errors.” He eventually wrote the “Scapemaker” and “Biggle and Bee.”

Of all his works, the last two have made the most significant impact on the world. If you want to explore Steve’s expertise, read on for a brief review of these great literary works.

Steve V. Cypert first named this book “The Son of Nicholas Namely.” However, he changed the title soon after that. Today, when you go online, look for “Scapemaker,” and not the other one.

Steve properly uses suspense to keep his readers guessing and wanting to gather more information. Also, he makes his audience profoundly grounded in the real world and also sees the happenings in the thriving fantastical world.

For Steve to achieve this goal, he creates an abstract high school teacher named Nicholas with his son Mathew and others. The young man does not know that his father is a dreamscaper. Not only that but also Mathew is ignorant that his parent’s class is connected to the dream-world.

After a short while, a series of tragic events begin to take place. This prompts the son to launch an investigation to unveil the mysteries behind these happenings. It is at this stage that this man finds himself in a completely unfamiliar world.

Mathew and his mother, Mae, are forced to travel everywhere to look for a solution to the older man’s strange medical needs. He also reports to a new school where one of his female colleagues introduces him into dreamscaping and spiritual solutions he never knew before. This saves him. He likely suggests that the present generation needs unique solutions. Resposible parenting can prevent many similar issues.

As you see, Steve uses his religious background to inspire his readers and make them remain grounded in the real world. At the same time, he makes the fantastical world enduring.

Biggle and Bee

Steve wrote this novel as he waited for the first Scapemaker edit. From it, you can see that Steve has a particular concern for the affairs of children. This book, Biggle and Bee, offers children a great moral message.

Steve uses an abstract inexperienced young character known as Biggle. This guy starts a journey and eventually finds himself walking alone in the wilderness. Before long, he meets a newly hatched gosling, Bee, which a sly old fox had taken and safely stored in the ground. This experience teaches Biggle an essential lesson on forgiveness. He argues that the parents of Bee were blind and deserve their son’s mercy.

Biggle resolves to escort Bee back to his parents despite the possible dangers on the way. As they walk, define a bully as irresponsible people who need to be helped to understand real life.

In this story, Steve teaches children to expect challenges. However, they must love all, be self-confident always, and solve their problems without fear.

What About Book Covers?

Other than the inspiring stories of love, the strength of character, and self-confidence that characterizes all the books of Steve, the book covers also make them outstanding. If you consider the ‘Scapermaker,” you realize that its designer uses an appealing image of a hidden head of a person.

The illuminating color also makes a professional impact. In all, one gets a feeling that the book is about a fantastic story and lots of extraordinary discoveries. This way, the writings of Steve, including the Port of Errors, can attract any curious readers.

The Bottom Line

If you have never read any book by Steve V. Cypert, you can try “Scapemaker,” Biggle and Bee, or any other. You will see his strong character. This author appears to uphold strong moral values. And this likely point to his early religious upbringing. He endeavors to entertain and educate his readers without compromise.

Cracked- Eliza Crewe

Review of Cracked (Soul Eater #1)

Rating 5 stars

Normally the Main Character in a book is the good person but not in Cracked. Meda is bad, a monster, but a hilarious monster. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much throughout a book. Meda’s inner dialogue was brilliant and I loved her struggle between being good and bad.

Here are a few parts I took from book:

I consider the many tools at my disposal, eyeing his large blood-splattered frame, and settle on my weapon of choice – one so infrequently used I need to dust it off first.

My eyes fill with tears. “Wha–” I swallow hard “– what were those things?”

“Demons.” Thanks, Einstein. I got that part. I let a tear trickle over.

He hurries to reassure me. “Don’t cry – I’ll protect you.”

Humiliating. Absolutely humiliating.

❝ A small girl, still young enough to suffer the indignity of pigtails, holds out a dead goldfish in her cupped hand.

Thanks, but I just ate.

“My fish died,” she lisps around missing teeth. She looks at me expectantly.

Ah – catastrophe has struck and she’s in search of an adult to handle it. (…) Fortunately, I know just how to handle this one.

“Flush it down the toilet.”

What? It’s a fish.

“There are some people you know you shouldn’t anger because it isn’t right. Like your mom – if she’s the nice sort.

There are other people you know you shouldn’t anger because they have the authority to punish you. Police officers, politicians, insane asylum wardens, your mom – if she’s the bad sort.

But there are some people you shouldn’t anger that you don’t know about, because no one ever survived to warn you.

I’m the third kind.

I eat souls.

The Secondary Characters where just as valuable to the story. My favourite been Jo, she was so angry at the world that it gave Meda so much ammunition for hilarious smart commentary (That went on inside her head) it had me laughing so hard. Uri was sweet, he was a kid who got to hang out with superman – superman being Chi. It was cute.

Overall the story captured me not for its plot or world building but because of Meda and her inability to feel compassion for others. Just hilarious. If you want a fun read that will make you laugh and smile then cracked is the one for you.

Kelley Armstrong- Omens

Review of Omens

Rating 5 stars

Olivia Taylor lives the high life, her world is of wealth, charity events (for the rich) and she’s engaged to James. But when she finds out she’s the daughter of the serial killers “The Larsen’s” her world is shattered. She fleas to Cainsville where strange doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s there that we meet Gabriel. Gabriel is a lawyer who helps Olivia look into her real parents so called crimes.

I loved the superstition in omens. I found myself at night placing my pillows inwards, watching cats to see if rain was coming or birds to indicate towards the future. I loved all the aspects that Kelly Armstrong came from.

Secondly I just adored Gabriel he was selfish, arrogant yet his demons are bigger then I first thought and I feel in the second book we will find out things about Gabriel that will be hard to swallow. But I still love him as a character. Olivia and Gabriel’s relationship was strained at most parts, but it was the smallest gesture or the way he looked at her that had my heart rate in overdrive.

I loved Omens and can’t wait for the second book. I would highly recommend this to all paranormal readers

Kurt D. Springs- Promise Of Mercy

Author: Kurt D. Springs

Review: Promise of Mercy

Rating: 5 Stars

This is the second book that I have read by Author Kurt D. Springs. The first being Price of Vengeance. In both books there is a lesson to be learned – That vengeance isn’t the answer but compassion is. Time can change so much so quickly even for the worst of us; Marisa is the example in this book.

Liam is also still a very strong character but is learning and with the help of his four children. His three daughters are the walk of him. Their adventure takes off when the temple is under siege with their mother inside and their father is sent through a portal to an unknown place. It’s a story of family, love and forgiveness.

At the start the bad guys are the original founders but we soon meet Kergan a man who has no regard for live. He is the enemy that the finnian must fight. Deirdre Liam’s daughter took centre stage for me with her blatant disregard for orders, she was stubborn, her only focus was saving her parents and we watched her time and time again display this with some serious defiance. She has a temper. 🙂

We meet new creatures in my head I picture bigfoot 🙂 they help Liam and his family against the enemy and are a welcome addition.

A lot of things throughout the story stood out for me. One being the use of Irish – it was fantastic to see as I am Irish myself. Translations of the Irish words where right beside it in English, so no flicking to the back of the book or e-copy to see what it means. Which for me normally pulls me from the story so this was really great.

The second thing I loved was Gayla and her bond with Liam especially with the paranormal activity in the prison. It was a bit scary but I loved it.

Also I love the author’s ability to take a bad guy or women that you really don’t like, and soon without realizing it you feel compassion for them. Marisa the prime example here.

The technology, science, new species  and descriptive lands   in this book felt to me that an enormous amount of research went into this book.

I have a feeling that we are not done yet, with the ending (Which I will not say) but I really look forward to reading about Liam and his four children?  Again.. Oh, and  ted I can’t leave him out he is like a brother to Aidan.

If you love sci-fi action packet with a lot of gadgets then grab a copy of Promise of mercy and Price of Vengeance you won’t be disappointed.

Red Queen- Victoria Aveyard

Review of the Red Queen

Rating: 5 stars

To sum up the Red Queen I would say the hunger games meet Games of Throne.

Mare Barrow reminded me of Katniss living in the slums. She stole to survive and her family and best friend Kilcorn come first. But when Mare gets a job in the palace her powers are ignited and she’s brought into the world of Silvers. This is where the story reminded me of Games of throne. The lies deceit and the game the royals played were hard to keep up with and Mare is a pawn in the game, which she doesn’t even know she’s playing. She starts to fall for Marven her betrothed yet she still has feelings for Cal the future King. Her feelings make her judgement off and for it she pays the ultimate price.

The world building was breath-taking and the author’s ability to keep us blind to the truth was very well played out. I didn’t trust anyone and when I did I would second guess myself but I couldn’t have fully predicated who would betray mare.

The rebels add to the tension already in the story and I found my hands clammy in fear of certain rebels been found out, yet once again nothing could have prepared me for the ending

I look forward to book two and mostly Cal. He’s strong, fierce and his loyalty to the crown is to be admired. He is a warrior, his abilities had me transfixed on him. Just loved him no matter where he stands in this war.

I would highly recommend this to all fantasy lovers.

The Watcher-Lisa Voisin

Review of The Watcher

3.5 stars

The Watcher is story about angels and demons, but I love how it’s different than others I have read. It’s not your simple forbidden love, but the seven deadly sins come into play and for me I just loved that. I know we only see two in play in this book, but I loved the angle the author came from making it stand out for me more than other books of its kind.
I loved some of the descriptions that Mia gives us while she is in awe of Michael’s wings, or the sound of his voice. I could almost feel what she was saying, it was very well explained.
The plot itself was really good it wasn’t just forbidden love, but the twist at the end with Damiel was just brilliant and one I didn’t expect, and Mia’s understanding of how envy worked really blow me away, it was great thinking and I loved it.

But in saying all that the reason I gave this book only 3.5 stars was the characters. I just for the life of me couldn’t connect with Mia or Michael. Mia was understanding in so many ways, that I found myself disagreeing with her. I couldn’t picture her at all, and I felt nothing really for her. As for Michael I felt he was weak and his love for Mia overshadowed everything else. The one Character I loved and she wasn’t in it much was Michael’s sponsor Arielle, I found she had a strong voice, she was willing to get the job done, and most of the explaining of what was going on came from her. She was a character that I could connect with and see. Also Heather and Fiona just seemed selfish to me. But this is just my opinion and mine alone.

While reading some of the other reviews I see a lot of people compared this book to Hush, Hush and I didn’t like that book at all I think I rated it like two stars. So for lovers of Hush, Hush and Forbidden love with Angels – you may love The Watchers.

I received this book from the Author for an honest review.
