Question: What have you published recently?

Answer:  I have a Paranormal Romance available called Splash (A Sable World Novella). My next full length novel, Blood Loss, will be out in the next few months.

Question: How, and when, did you decide to become a writer?

Answer: I have always enjoyed writing and took many writing classes through school. My family and friends have always come to me so I can write or design something for many events. About five years ago I thought I would try to write a book. Just one. I had so many characters come to life and they needed their own stories as well. Now I have a whole series developed and ready to be released.

Question: Where can we find your published writing?

Answer: My Novella, Splash, is available through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Nook, Kindle, and Kobo, and you can get a preview of Blood Loss on Goodreads.

Question: What is a typical day like for you as a writer?

Answer: My day is just like any other persons day with the exception of really strange research sometimes. I am an assistant with a Special Education department full time; I am a mother, wife and basketball coach; and I am a writer. My days are very busy balancing life and writing. I normally do not get a chance to write until the late evenings and then I am up way to late writing. I use any minute of free time during my day to work on scenes and then fill in all the blanks the first chance I get which is normally after my son is in bed for the night.

Question: What are your favorite characters that you have created? Tell us about them

Answer: I love all my characters, even my villains, so this is a hard question. I would have to say one character in particular has always touched my heart closely. Lilly Haven is a little girl that tries to find a way to help a woman overcome and move on from a family tragedy. As Lilly deals with her own conflicts as a young Fae trying to understand her special talents she still encourages and supports those around her. Her character is so inspiring to me because young children see things differently than we, adults, do. She makes those around her see the simplicity in things which gives many the power to overcome and move forward to a better future. Once I started writing I knew Lilly would develop into a strong character that needed her own book. Instead of her own book Lilly will have her own Young Adult Series!

Question: do you find you “mentally edit” other writers’ works as you read them? Does doing this help you or bother you?

Answer: I do find myself mentally editing books I read. When I find a mistake it really doesn’t bother me. I find myself taking a deep breath and thinking, “Thank goodness I am not the only one.” There will be mistakes in anything you read, watch or listen to because we are all human.  Even now you can look back and watch a movie again and find a huge mistake in a scene but it doesn’t stop people from enjoying the movie. As a writer my goal is to give readers a strong story with humor, action, romance and entice a reader’s emotions. Don’t get me wrong, yes, of course I would like for my material to be perfect without any errors as do all authors but I understand that life happens and we are all human. Finding editing errors doesn’t influence me in putting a book down especially when the story line is strong and exciting.

Question: What music do you listen to, while writing?

Answer: I listen to a wide variety of music while I am writing. Mostly it depends on the scene I am trying to write. I may listen to softer music while writing a romantic scene and hard rock as I get into an action scene. Music plays a large role in my creative process. Some of my favorite bands are Three Doors Down, Nickel Back, Fighting Gravity, Def Leopard, and Train.

Question: What do you eat while writing?

Answer: Chocolate!  Special dark chocolate with raspberry flavour is one of my favourites.

Five for Fun:

What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?

Answer: Mango sweet tea with chunks of mango!

What is your favourite cartoon character?

Answer: Tom and Jerry is one of my favourite cartoons. I enjoy the little guy, Jerry, out smarting the bigger guy, Tom. I enjoy Jerry the mouse so much I actually have a cat named Mouse!

What is your favourite movie of all time?

Answer: I love the Lethal Weapon movies. I have watched them so many times and still laugh with tears in my eyes. My favourite part is in the last movie where Danny Glover is in his underpants distracting the bad guy using a flame thrower. I still laugh just thinking about that scene and the banter between those two characters.

What do you like to do for fun or just to relax?

Answer: My family and I enjoy camping in the mountains or anywhere our camper takes us. One of our all-time favourite camping areas is Smith Mountain Lake. This area of Virginia is beautiful and so relaxing. The other thing I enjoy doing is training and educating the public about my service dog and her importance. My service dog and I also enjoy teaching sessions on dog care and training with kids.
