Brenda Rothert began her writing career at age 23 as a reporter for the Pekin Daily Times. While there, she covered local government, murder trials, features and other stories.

After two years at the newspaper, Rothert moved on to the Peoria Journal Star, the largest newspaper in downstate Illinois. In seven years there, she covered a wide range of stories, including features, local government and crime reporting. She interviewed and wrote about a variety of colorful people, including Harold Ronk, the original singing ringmaster for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus; college and professional basketball coaching legend Dick Versace and then-Illinois Senate candidate Barack Obama.

Rothert has had stories published in Illinois Country Living magazine. She lives in Central Illinois with her husband and three children.
