Question: What have you published recently?

In August 2013 I published “Dentelle” the third book in the Guardian series.

Question: How, and when, did you decide to become a writer?

I’ve always thought about writing a novel but never thought it would happen. Being a mother, teacher, and wife has kept me super busy. Then, about 5 years ago I decided to go for it. I would lay in bed at night and write a chapter in my head, and then whenever I had a free moment I’d get to work. Crazy as it seems, I even took my laptop and wrote while my kids were taking Taekwondo. It was crazy loud, because they were encouraged to use loud vocal “ki-yaps” apparently that make their kicks and punches more powerful. But somehow, the noise just faded into the background and I escaped into the Guardian world.

Question: Where can we find your published writing?

All three books are available in just about any e-book format. You can find them at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Sony, Apple - iBooks, Diesel, Flipkart, Page Foundry, and Kobo.

Question: What is a typical day like for you as a writer?

If I’m not teaching….I will write all day. Oftentimes, I’m so focused I barely have time to grab a bite to eat for lunch. Something quick like yogurt, fruit, and a peanut butter cookie that I can eat while I re-read what I just wrote. I’m usually so immersed in writing, I lose track of time. I take quick breaks to switch the laundry over and rest my eyes, but then it’s back to work. We always do sit-down family dinners, so I know that by 5pm, my writing time is up. I HAVE to make a dinner plan and implement it. Pizza and Thai food are my back-ups when I am simply cranking out the story and can’t stop a good thing. On a great day, I can write half a chapter.

Question: What are your favorite characters that you have created? Tell us about them.

In the Guardian trilogy, the main characters are Lexi, Jason, and Ash, with the secondary characters being Jessica, Max, Madison, Laci, and Kieran. For the most part, they are all college students. Their story is told from Lexi’s point of view. And while I love that she is a strong female character, my favorite character is Ash. He’s just fun, obnoxious, and always has a comeback. He’s a daredevil with a giant ego, and he thrives on pushing the boundaries. But underneath all that arrogance, he’s really a nice guy and very loyal.

Question: do you find you “mentally edit” other writers’ works as you read them? Does doing this help you or bother you?

Oh, my! I do this all the time. And it drives me nuts! Sometimes I bookmark a word that I really like and add it to a list of words I’d like to use sometime.

Question: What music do you listen to, while writing?

Actually, I just leave a radio on in the kitchen, but it’s far enough away I can’t hear the words. Otherwise, I will start singing along and that breaks my concentration.

Question: What do you eat while writing?

Grapes, Nutter Butter cookies, ice water.
