Question: What have you published recently?  In January, I self-published my book, The Healing Heart.  It's been my first venture into the publishing world, so I'm excited and quite proud of it!:) I'm in the middle of writing book #2 now, and I have many more planned for the future!

Question: How, and when, did you decide to become a writer? I have written pretty much since I have been able to write. It's always been like breathing, to me. I would make up poetry on the fly and hold my parents captive in our basement, reciting to them.  I wrote avidly when I was younger, but as I aged, life got in the way. For the longest time, I put writing on a back burner.  When my father passed away a year ago, I came to the realization that life truly is too short.  This spurred me to get back into it again.  I started The Healing Heart last June, and like the title suggests, it was quite healing to my own heart!

Question: Where can we find your published writing? The Healing Heart is available in e-book form on (, Barnes and (, and on iTunes (

Question: What is a typical day like for you as a writer? My days are pretty insane! I am married to my college sweetheart, and we have a twelve year old, as well as a crazy little dog! So, much of my time is devoted to them. Right now, I am promoting as much as possible, and in between I try to breathe…oh yeah, and write! I am trying to work on finding balance, at the moment! lol

Question: What are your favorite characters that you have created? Tell us about them  I especially love Jamie Hansen, the main character that The Healing Heart revolves around.  She's quirky and spunky--both strong and vulnerable, at the same time.  When those that know me well read The Healing Heart, they always say they can hear my voice when she speaks. This is a pretty big compliment, in my eyes.  I also really LOVE her love interest, Conley Michaels, because I patterned him after the actor Sasha Roiz, in looks and mannerisms.  He's pretty dreamy--in my book, and in real life!;) But my favorite character of all, so far, is from the book I'm currently working on. Her name is Jae Jourdain. She's this funky island bartender who is 1/4 Thai and who was raised in the swamps of NOLA.  She's beautiful--tattooed, with long blonde dreadlocks.  I based her looks on a gal that waited on me in this fun little Baja Mexican cantina restaurant in Blacksburg, VA.  I can't wait for everybody to officially "meet" her!:)

Question: do you find you “mentally edit” other writers’ works as you read them? Does doing this help you or bother you? I am an absolute control freak, so embarrassingly, yes, I do this.  I don't know if it's a help or a hindrance, actually. I definitely don't let little glitches bother me to the point that I can't enjoy a work because of them, though. I edit my own works a million times! But when It finally feels right, I'm like, yesss!

Question: What music do you listen to, while writing? I like it to be silent while I'm writing. But music is a huge deal to me! I have very eclectic taste, when it comes to music.  And I love pairing songs with scenes in books, shows, movies--whatever! So, with The Healing Heart, I included a playlist of songs that went along with what I was thinking/feeling as I wrote it. It's at the end, after the main body of the story.

Question: What do you eat while writing?  All I need is a never-ending mug of caramel flavored coffee and I'm golden!:)

Five for Fun:

What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?  They make those?? Just kidding, just kidding…I could be a sweet tea addict, if I would allow it.  The "real" sweet tea--like you find in the south--you know, basically tinted sugar water. I love diet Dr. Pepper, too.

What is your favourite cartoon character? Tough one! I would have to say Bugs Bunny.  He's freakin' hilarious.

What is your favourite movie of all time? Another tough one--I LOVE movies! This is like trying to isolate and point out my favorite molecule of air! But to give an answer, I would say something like Clue or The Private Eyes.  I love those funny, madcap, mystery-spoof kind of movies.  But, then again, there are the original Star Wars'…or the Indiana Jones movies…or the Harry Potters…oh my gosh, WHY DID YOU ASK ME THIS?? lololol

What do you like to do for fun or just to relax? I love to read, watch movies, cook, travel, and hang out with friends.

Question: Where can we find you on the web?  You can find me on my website (, on Facebook (, on Twitter (@HealingHeartJen), on Goodreads (, and on Pinterest ( I'm EVERYWHERE! Lol!:)
