Question: What have you published recently?

The White Stag, my first novel, came out this past Labor Day weekend.

Question: How, and when, did you decide to become a writer?

I’ve always written stories, but I didn’t decide I wanted to write novels until college. The White Stag was actually started as a college project and finished after I graduated.

Question: Where can we find your published writing?

It’s available at Amazon and online at Barnes and Noble.

Question: What is a typical day like for you as a writer?

My day job is actually as a copywriter, so from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed, I’m writing. Sometimes it’s for products, and sometimes it’s for my novels.

Question: What are your favorite characters that you have created? Tell us about them.

I’ve grown to have a very big soft spot for Cypress, the lead protagonist in my novel, The White Stag. I’ve spent a lot of time developing her as a character to make her interesting enough and relatable enough to be the main character of a novel, the one through which the reader’s view of the world is shaped. So on one hand, we have this very innocent narrator who learns as the reader learns, but on the other hand, we have a cocky narrator who is constantly getting in over her head. She is never one to take no for an answer.

Question: do you find you “mentally edit” other writers’ works as you read them? Does doing this help you or bother you?

It depends on why I’m reading the work. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. If I’m reading for enjoyment, the only time I mentally edit something is if a piece of the text bothers me. For the most part, I get lost in the text and drown myself in the narrative world.

Question: What music do you listen to, while writing?

That depends. Sometimes I write in silence, but for certain scenes that I associate with a song, I listen to that song on repeat to get the clearest image onto the page. But by the end of writing the scene, I’ll probably be sick of the song!

Question: What do you eat while writing?

I usually pause for big meals, but I’ve been known to snack on potato chips and mango slices while I’m writing.

Five for Fun:

What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?

Milkshakes. Any milkshake, really! Peanut butter, chocolate, malts… I just really like milkshakes.

What is your favourite cartoon character?

Funnily enough, it’s Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse. I like black comedies even if it’s not what I write.

What is your favourite movie of all time?

That’s a good question, and one that’s impossibly hard for me to answer as it changes on a daily basis. I really like Tron in its cheesy goodness, but Iron Man holds a lot of sway as well.

What do you like to do for fun or just to relax?

Reading a lot of the time. Expanding my musical horizons. Hanging out with my tight knit group of friends. Losing myself on the internet.

Question: Where can we find you on the web?

I have an author page on Goodreads, and you can find me on most social media @lindenflynn!
