Question: What have you published recently?

A romantic suspense set in a London mansion called The Room Beyond

Question: How, and when, did you decide to become a writer?

I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember but only began to write seriously when my first daughter was born.  It was my way of coping with those long sleepless nights!

Question: Where can we find your published writing?

The Room Beyond is currently for sale on Amazon Kindle Books.

Question: What is a typical day like for you as a writer?

Well, I now have three children so my writing is crammed into small segments of free time during my chaotic days!  Writing is a sanctuary for me and I grasp the opportunity whenever I can.

Question: What are your favorite characters that you have created? Tell us about them

There are several heroines in The Room Beyond, but the one I have learned to love the most is probably Miranda.  Miranda is an underdog.  She had a harsh upbringing, is hugely self-conscious about her plain looks and is married to an awful man.  But Miranda grows in strength throughout the novel ; she battles through all of life’s hard obstacles and takes a motherless child into her care when she has little money or support.

My other favourite character from the book is the Victorian mystic Walter Balanchine from London’s East End.  He snakes his way through the grey London streets in eccentric wizard-like clothes and wears a string of bottles and charms around his neck.  Walter’s early life is the subject of my next novel – I loved writing him so much that I couldn’t get away!

Question: do you find you “mentally edit” other writers’ works as you read them? Does doing this help you or bother you?

No. Every writer has a different style and reading a wide range of books only enriches my own writing. If I don’t like a book I put it down but I always try and read with an open mind.

Question: What music do you listen to, while writing?

Complete silence!  All the thoughts and ideas buzzing around my head make enough noise for me!

Question: What do you eat while writing?

When I write I’m usually so absorbed by my work that I barely notice what I’m eating.  When I finish I tend to discover that I’ve just consumed a whole load of junk.

Five for Fun:

What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?

What is your favourite cartoon character?

Belle from Beauty and the Beast (I have two daughters!)

What is your favourite movie of all time?

Pulp Fiction

What do you like to do for fun or just to relax?

Write – of course!  And go out for long, indulgent meals with friends.
